A Motivational Alternative

The Year That Was 2013.

As one chapter sets, another one begins at sunrise.
2013 has come and gone at the tip of ginormous crystal ball came crashing down in Times Square as we celebrated that 2014 was officially here. The first few days of the New Year have been pretty good, productive and relaxing for myself but I would like to take a step back and few steps up to increase my viewpoint as I chit chat about the year that was 2013 for me.

Looking back 365 days in the past, I would say that I went through a couple things during that timeline. Dealing with the craziness on the job, handling business for myself to further move in the right direction and in all just living and enjoying life in general. Work has gotten tougher the last few months as I'm still looking for a full time position somewhere in my line work and even though I didn't find it in 2013...I vow to find, sign and stamp my signature onto a position in the upcoming year that is 2014.

One of my primary goals of 2014.

Speaking of my job...I successfully completed my EMT-B course that was 6 long, grueling and beyond stressful months. For a guy that has a Bachelor's Degree from VCU, that course was one of the most difficult courses I have ever been a part of. From learning about parts of the body, procedures and techniques and a whole hell of a lot of BSI, Scene Safety and proper body work; and that was just the first month.  But throughout it all, it was a very interesting course into a probable career move for myself that I can definitely see myself being involved in, making an income and beyond else...happy.

I even passed the first part of the State Exam to become an official EMT-B on my first try! BAMM! Currently preparing for the second part which consist of a written exam with A LOT of questions...not out of the woods yet. So after I hit 'Publish', I need to re-open Word and study some more notes...

Studying for the Win!

Also in the year that was 2013 I encountered many friendships; both of the old and new variety. By old, meeting old and current friends and rebuilding bonds that mean oh so much to me. Even with my chaotic schedule as it is...I still manage to engage a social life. Which is nice, very nice. Along with making strangers into friends and seeing old faces and reliving memories and laughs at the bar or the local sporting event, it twas' a good old time and plan on having even more fun in 2014.

Cheers to 2013. And to 2014 for that matter.
I even manage to make my significant other happy for a full year! I have no idea how...you know since I'm a dude and a klutz. Well that kind of explain the dude thing...haha.

There was some bad events and some WTF! events such as family arguments, low incomes and I was even flat out broke for about 2-3 months. Yet, with the power and the will and the many blessings that I received from above and others...I survived. One thing I learned the previous year is how to manage my rage that it's at least controllable when things go south. Along with upgrading my IDGAF attribute a few levels...life is pretty good being in the driver's seat instead of the passenger one.

Jumping into new experiences was also a biggie. Playing goalkeeper in soccer was...not gonna lie...scary as Hades. Yet, after a few more games I started to get the hang of it and now I'm one of the top goalkeepers in my division after playing for only 5 months or so. Gotta love long limbs and wide receive hands huh? Off the field, I got back into a few of my passions when I actually had free time. Gaming, music and writing are three of my favs and 2013 didn't disappoint on either one; even got better at my rhyme game as you can see from the Lyricial Spirituals on Fridays. Don't worry they're here to stay for the finish line lyrical boost before the weekend. :)

Another big thing for me was...this blog. I started this blog when I was in a undergrad at Virginia Commonwealth University just to basically write about whatever was on my mind. And back then there was a lot... Because I didn't feel as if I could say it with my mouth so I just used a keyboard. Fast forward a few years and looking at what I've come up with is kind of awe-inspiring if I say so myself. The fact that more and more people I run into actually talk about what I posted on On Tap, make a comment about Trio on Hump Day (Whoop! Whoop!) or even give a thumbs up about my poetry or other off topics; it's amazing! I'm not concerned about having 1,000,000 views or a thousands of followers on my Twitter (@ShadowKazie) or G+...the fact that some people are out there clicking, liking, retweeting, +1ing, and other social media -ing words is truly awesome!

And if this is your first time ever reading my posts or you're a frequent visitor to the blog...just want to say once again:

THANK YOU!

The Year That Is Now 2014 has started up. I'm still in the buffering stages getting ready wise but I good vibes going that it's gonna be a good year. Here's a preview of my plans for the next 365:

* I'm 188 lbs; I want 200! I'm pretty athletic for my size currently but I really, really want to expand my muscle across my body. And I think secretly my girlfriend does even though apparently she thinks I'm attractive already...which I don't what she's looking at haha. But yeah...cardio-wise I'm good but I want to get more speed and power along with more muscle across my arms and legs. You know what that means?? More squats in the weight room awaits! Ohy vey...

* I'm getting inked! Been debating the idea of getting a tattoo especially after helping design a few for a few buddies of mine but I decided that I'm gonna get one this year. I always had a love for good ink; way before Ink Master and Tattoos After Dark even existed on TV. Good shows by the way. But yeah; I have a few designs in mine, just gotta figure out the where, when, and how much am I payin'.

*A Job Opportunity! After I officially become an EMT-B, I'm re-entering the job market and looking for a career move. Maybe I might be riding around in ambulance with a crew, working in a fire house or I might even stay in my department just doing something EMT related with patients. Whatever it is...I will have a full time position or a few part time gigs that will boost my income. Guaran-damn-teed.

*My Place, My Rules! Which probably is connected at the hip to the previous bullet above, I want my own place. Love my family and all but I want to find my own independence as a person. And what better way to show that than with your own place to pay your bills and such! Yeah... Hopefully after I save up a little something-something here and there while making sure I'm making enough to support myself, the move can be dotted and signed. At least that's the plan anyway.

*Compartmentalize! Tyrese Gibson put out a video talking about this very word around Christmas time and this word...actually describes how I live my life. In case you don't know what this big word means...here's the definition and how to say it!

com·part·men·tal·ize
transitive verb\kəm-ˌpärt-ˈmen-tə-ˌlīz, ˌkäm-\
: to separate (something) into sections or categories
: to separate (two or more things) from each other
: to put (something) in a place that is separate from other things

It's not an easy, quick fix to solve all of life's problems but it's a pretty damn good start for most people. I've been doing this for about 2-3 years and it helps tremendously on handling stressful situations and learning just how to cut bullshit from your life while making you more awesome and worry-free.

Check out the video from Tyrese at the end of this post and give it a try!

Alrighty boys and girls. That's enough typing from me haha. 2013 was a good year for myself and I hope it was too for you! Now that 2014 is here let's make it even better than 2013 and make a positive impact for ourselves.

Haters, Drama and Stress have crawled into the New Year as well. And they're gonna be up to their tricks to try and derail you. Just have that finger trigger ready when it comes near you and shut it down!

Looking forward to typing, laughing, cursing, quoting, tweeting, etc. as we get 2014 underway!

Let's Do This.
