Motives On Tap 28

Another week in progress and for some on the East Coast they are still without power.

But fear not...we shall overcome.

The rebuilding phase continues in a positive direction as more than a couple of thousands have regained electricity in their households and some power companies are making it their goal to have at least 90%-95% of householders back and running before the end of the week.

Irene is officially a tropical depression and far away from the states and Canada so that's a sigh of a relief. This isn't gonna be an easy task to clean up all this mess she left behind but as long as our heads are above water instead of drowning under it then everything should be back to normal before we all know it.

All the trees and the flooding waters throughout the states still need to be cleared up. Remember that these tasks will take time to complete so you may be in the dark for a few more days...as am I.

Keep your head up people and stay positive as you continue through your days.

And here's today On Tap.

Because if you have a strong foundation like we have, then you can build or rebuild anything on it. But if you've got a weak foundation you can't build anything.

"Survival. It's what man is really good at." -Kazie

Hurricane Irene has finally left us here in the East Coast and boy can girl leave some damage on your home on the way out the door.

Massive flooding, vicious winds, trees falling down like lightweights, power lines on the fritz, roads shutdown, houses damaged, cars totaled. It was just a never ending cycle of bad news coming down on us during this weekend.

At least 21 people died from the carnage that was Irene and sadly that number might be increasing soon. According to experts, the range of damage done on the East Coast overall is around $7 billion. And not to mention the millions of people that are currently without electricity in their households.

But out of all this there is a positive; a pretty big one if you ask me...and that this: We survived.

Yes, it wasn't pretty by any imagination but that fact that we survived Irene is a step moving forward. We have survived bigger disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, the California Wildfires, 9/11. World War I, and many other historical conflicts that threatened us. But guess what? We may have lost a few souls and I give condolences towards them and their families but we are still alive and kicking.

The rebuilding process will take some time; This is probably the most hated sentence in this post but it's true. You can't satisfy every one's personal need of power in one day when there are millions that are in the same boat as you are. The clean up crew has a lot of tasks on their checklist to complete and it will take a while until all those conditions are met. We just need to have some patience because as bad as you think you have it right now...someone is doing far worse.

I have no power, probably won't have it for a week but I'm forever grateful that I'm still living. That my vehicle is still in good traveling condition. That I still have a job to go to and make some sort of salary. I'm a lucky guy in every sense of the word; so I can go without power because I know it will eventually turn back on. I would be lying if I want everything in the crib to be up and running ASAP but I'm in no rush. Yeah I'll lose the food and drinks I have in the fridge but at least I'm still fortunate to even have a fridge.

So people complaining about why the power ain't on yet, please do me and those that think similar to me a favor....shut up.

For everyone that has been affected by Irene I wish you all safety and peace of mind as we go through the aftermath and the rebuilding process. We will return to our regular scheduled program of life...just gotta watch a few reruns until the power comes back on.

Protect your neck and watch out for them trees on the road. We've been through many disasters here in the states and survive, let's not let this Category 1 Hurricane be the dagger shall we?

Survival is the name of the game. Well...game on.

Irene is coming.

It's already hit around Florida and lower parts of the Eastern Coast pretty hard. Now it's currently around Hatteras Island and the Outer Banks in North Carolina heading towards Virginia and the upper East Coast.

Virginia and North Carolina is where Irene will be making it's mark on Saturday as it keeps moving up North and it sems to be picking up speed. But it should be out of the area later this Saturday evening.

According to weather experts, Irene should be making a trip to the Jersey Shore on Sunday afternoon just in time for Sunday Dinner at the Shore House. Then is expected to be a bit more calmer heading to the Big Apple but still dangerous with wind speeds up to 75 MPH.

Early Monday morning Irene should be close around the Maine state line getting a few greeting cards before it leaves the United States and makes the trip into Canada. Experts believe the Category 1 Hurricane should become demoted to a tropical storm by this point; we can only hope so.

Just wanted to say that I hope you people are safe and prepared if you are in Irene's path. Thankfully, it changed to a Category 1 Hurricane instead of the Category 3 it started as; hopefully that's a great sign that everything will be fine during the storm.

Don't do anything stupid such as making a trip to the beach. Seriously? There's a storm out with about 75 MPH winds. Pretty sure you can wait on working on your tan or playing some beach soccer for a few days.

Be safe people.

Start Your Classrooms!!!

"You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call 'failure' is not the falling down, but the staying down." -Mary Pickford

It's beautiful day out here...besides the hurricane coming this way and Steve Jobs stepping down from Apple, everything seems to be just peachy.

Oh, and besides college classes starting again.

Yes, it's that wonderful time of the year where young adults that graduated high school recently fear and the people that's been around the local campus parties here and there have all been waiting for! College classes started with a bang at and I'm not referring to the aftershocks felt all around the East Coast.

Some freshmen are starting a journey to find what they want to do for a career throughout the thousands of choices available at their local lecture halls and libraries. Take it from me...it can get a little overwhelming at first; but what's a journey without sights to be seen along the way?

Then there are the upper class batch of kids that are focusing on what they want on that fancy piece of paper known as a degree and working towards it. Some are having success, others have a few bumps in the road. But don't get sidetracked!!Nothing is easy...especially at the college level. Some professors give you more leeway...ridiculous amounts sometimes; it's because they aren't your parents. They want you to succeed (seriously) but they aren't going to pamper you like you are their firstborn...that's what your parents are for.

Keep up with your assignments, make sure you actually attend your classes (even if you are fighting a hangover after last night's party), take some time to study and your college experience should go a little more smoothly. That is until Finals where every person does daily CRAM sessions... Other than that, go get them As and maybe a few Bs!!

So for all those that are starting college up...I wish you the very best in whatever it is that you decided to do career-wise. Whether your a freshman looking for answers or a person working on your Masters, I wish you the best on your academic quest.

Hopefully there won't be any Level 40 Corrosive Brutes in your way. That's would just be odd...

Remember...in order to succeed, you gotta have the confidence along with the work to prove that you belong.

P.S. Make sure you also get away from the books for a little while during your semester...after all it is college. Enjoy yourself.

Break

Been awhile since I've done one of these... ;)

In a world that seems to be full of a negativity.

It may difficult for people to just be.

Constant battles on the world stage,

Leaving earth-shattering pains for numerous days.

Going through without a voice or even allies.

Fighting, grinding, surviving to get by.

They think that this is living…it’s been their life.

Instead of security, their protection is to fight.

Refusal of becoming another casualty in the street.

Working towards being something great.

Breaking down the walls, pumping up the bass.

Just fighting to get out of this place.

Doubt, discouragement, and jealousy fill the rotten air.

Hatred creeping in to change the golden view they stare.

Making a few changes to modify it to mush.

Looking as if it’s a new batch for the local city dump.

What’s this? The trick doesn’t seem to be working.

Doesn’t seem to be effective at all…

Oh my…levels reached maximum capacity.

Rage against those that are interrupting thee.

They’re not at the finish yet. One day they will be.

And the trash will be left on the sidelines of the track.

Finally reaching their destination. The mission is complete.

They have arrived. They ain’t coming back.

What if Weekends Never Existed?

"All work and no play makes the weekend dull and boring. Might as well press fast forward on the weekend and be Monday already." -Kazie

For some reason as I finished one of my beverages at the bar I thought of this question; see the interesting things that pop in a human brain when under the influence?

But seriously think about it...what if we only had 5 days of the week instead of the regular 7?

Which means TGIF would probably have less enthusiasm and joy since we would just go to sleep and come right back in since the usual Friday, Saturday, and Sunday trifecta disappeared. No more weekend BBQs with friends and or family, trips with the clique to Dance Central in your town, or just sitting on the porch under the stars on a Sunday evening.

Whoa...that's scary to think about.

People...take advantage of what's given to us. We have 7 days to enjoy ourselves but the weekend's main purpose is to just kick loose and be laid back because we deserve to have a little fun in our lives.

There are millions of ways to enjoy the week but we as humans live for the weekend.

Motives On Tap 26

Hey There People!

It's Friday!!! Possibly the most popular day of the week. The Runner-Up being Saturday and coming in last being Monday. But alas, enjoy your Friday and here's today's quote.

Make each day of the week like Friday and your life will take on new enthusiasm.

Now if you excuse me...there is a karaoke bar calling for me. :)

If You Ain't Happy, You Ain't Trying.

"If you are so unhappy then why aren't you making progress towards making the -un disappear from that word permanently?" -Kazie

One thing I despise the most is drama. The other...bitching.

Now by "bitching" in my view since every person on this planet likes to tweak the definition with their personal preferences...is complaining, sobering, yelling, talking about all the negativity surrounding them and STILL doing the same old, same old.

It doesn't take someone with common sense to figure out that if you nag on the regular basis on let's say...how you don't earn enough money and that you're constantly broke but yet you do nothing to change it. Pay attention!!! In order for something to change, you have to put in some effort.

Let's take the situation stated in the previous paragraph shall we? Here's a few tips for that...
  • Find another job
  • Save about 10% per paycheck into your savings
  • Find spending alternatives that are cheaper
  • Don't spend so much on food and the hottest clothes or video games, etc, etc, etc.
  • And many more!
I'm started to get a little aggravated when I constantly hear on the daily basis about people's problems but when I ask what are they gonna do about it, it's as if they're a deer starring at the headlights of an incoming SUV at full speed.

It is normal to have problems since well...everybody has them; including yours truly. But if all you do is bitch about them getting worse and not putting in the effort for a positive change then quite frankly you must be happy being in that crappy situation to begin with.

So do something about it. Give your spouse a piece of your mind if they are treating you like yesterday's garbage; Start saving some cash if you want that brand new dress or new pair of Air Jordans; The friend that betrayed you? Kick em to the curb. Be confident that you DESERVE happiness when everybody around seems to be giving you the cold shoulder.

Don't get caught up in all the negativity and let it change you to be a bitch. The world doesn't like bitches...hence why you see them on the corner. It may look like the world is against you now, but with work and determination you can conquer the world.

If you ain't happy, you ain't trying.

Motives On Tap 25

Well that didn't take long did it? :)

Numero 25 because I can't type that number in Spanish on English keyboard.
Enjoy your day!!!

In order to live the life you want to live, you must have the confidence in order to live it and also sacrifice what you need to give up in order to be granted eternal happiness.

Got My Swag Back...

Been a rough few weeks but I feel like I'm back to my crazy and randomness self again.

It's amazing how a death can affect people, especially a loved one. No one can expect it and take it differently when someone is gone forever. I was a strong person when it affected my mental status but I knew my family was gonna take it differently. But we were able to get over this event of sadness and have a celebration of memories in a joyful way.

All we can do it is take a day at a time and focus on getting back on track. Especially since life stops for no one, we still got to keep it moving.

And that's what I plan on doing.

So I'm back. The mastermind of this blog that is on your desktop at this current moment. The Daily quotes, poetry, events, and other writings of mine shall come forth.

Glad to be back and stronger than ever both physically and mentally. Physically since I've actually got into a gym routine, shocking right? Should be a great time writing and expressing my thoughts to the world...yet again.

Swag.
